Our existing customer, a well-known government education and research institute, previously installed multiple plant growth chambers in 2015 for their multicell plant growth research. They now required the chambers for research, focused on speed breeding applications.
Plant growth applications optimize conditions for general development, while speed breeding applications focus on accelerating the breeding process for faster generation turnover.

Challenges

  • Specialized Requirements: Speed breeding chambers demanded advanced technology, especially in lighting, which added complexity and cost.

  • Limited Budget: Our customer, a well-known Govt Education and Research Institute aimed to establish a speed breeding facility but had a limited budget, restricting access to high-end solutions.

Solution

By understanding the customer’s challenges, our team developed a tailored solution that delivered exceptional value. Recognizing the need for a cost-effective approach, we proposed retrofitting an existing plant growth chamber specifically for speed breeding applications. This involved a comprehensive revamp of the chamber’s lighting system, where we replaced the previous white, fluorescent lights with an advanced system featuring different spectra (AP67 spectrum) and a closed-loop dimming system, making it ideal for speed breeding research. To ensure affordability, we retained the existing chamber, controller, refrigeration system, and humidity controls, focusing solely on the lighting upgrade. Additionally, we established a strategic partnership with a Netherlands-based company that recently began manufacturing in India, allowing us to access their advanced products at a lower cost. This collaboration helped keep the project within the customer’s budget while achieving the desired results. Ultimately, we successfully delivered our first retrofitting project for speed breeding, leveraging the latest technology and our service team’s proven expertise.
